This workshop is focused on understanding how the foundations of your practice are actually building the strength and physical awareness to explore inversions and other advanced techniques. We will breakdown various forms of headstand and forearm stand, and take a look at handstands too.
Based on the 4 basic elements - Fire, Water, Earth and Air - Mandala Vinyasa connects each element with a specific area of the body, integrating the spiral patterns that nature uses and exploring circular movements with our bodies, moving 360º around the mat.
These days in the west, most of our hips are tight. Mainly that's caused by sitting on chairs, but also many of our activities when we do exercise only serve to tighten the hips – think of cycling, walking or running. We don’t have many exercises which focus on the mobility of the hips. Which is why yoga is so very powerful as an antidote to all those chairs, that running, and our sedentary lifestyle.
To achieve a deep backbend must release through the front body, particularly the hip flexors and shoulders. In this workshop we will also be looking at a variety of backbends, as well as proper alignment and common mistakes. We will build strength in our backbends and have fun with different entries to urdhva dhanurasana (wheel pose).
We will be working deeply into the hamstrings to find more space in our forward folds. Discover easier entry to inversions as you lengthen the back of the body. We will also be looking at the role of mula bandha in our practice. Beginners to inversions welcome!

Connect to the element of Water and Svadhisthan chakra by opening and stabalising the hips. Access your creativity and flow like water 360° around the mat, this 2 hour workshop is designed to help you to safely access deeper hip openers.
